Richard Chavez, along with Chad Coleman, formed Coleman Chavez & Associates in 2008 with a new business model of aggressive workers’ compensation defense unique to the industry. The firm has grown rapidly throughout the entire state of California to over 65 plus attorneys currently and still grows year after year. Richard is the firm’s managing partner. Richard was born in Laguna Beach, California. He graduated from California State University at Sonoma in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts in political science and a minor in criminal justice. Richard received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, in 1999. While at McGeorge, he was admitted to the Roger J. Traynor Honor Society on May 15, 1998. Richard was admitted to the California State Bar in 1999. He began doing employment and toxic tort litigation after law school. He grew to become a renowned defense trial and litigation attorney and represented businesses in the full range of matters with creative strategies tailored to the individual needs of his clients. Richard then transitioned into workers’ compensation defense, devoting the majority of his legal career to defending the interests of employers, insurers, and third-party administrators in California state workers’ compensation matters, §132a claims, and Serious and Willful Misconduct claims. When away from work, Richard enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, as well as golfing, tennis, baseball, and traveling.
