Dorothy Liu is a Labor and Employment partner with Hanson Bridgett, representing employers in the private and public sectors since 1999. In addition, Dorothy served as Commissioner on the San Francisco Ethics Commission from 2011 to 2013, having been appointed by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in April 2011. In her employment practice, Dorothy represents clients across a wide variety of industries, such as the concrete, aggregates and cement industries, transportation industry, federal defense contractors, educational institutions, healthcare and assisted living industries. Dorothy has extensive experience leading class action defense litigation in state and federal courts on issues ranging from meal and rest break claims to off-the-clock, overtime, and wage-and-hour issues under California’s Labor Code, as well as representative and collective actions brought under California’s Private Attorneys General Act and the federal Fair Labor Standards Act. She also regularly defends employers against claims of employment discrimination, sexual harassment, disability discrimination, retaliation (including whistleblower retaliation), and wrongful termination in single-plaintiff and multiple-plaintiff lawsuits. Dorothy’s practice includes handling labor arbitrations and negotiating collective bargaining agreements, and she frequently advises employers on workplace investigations, managing leaves of absence and disability accommodations, handling employee discipline and terminations, and wage and hour compliance under state and federal law.
